Marian to host Jazz Studies concert, April 25

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Marian University’s Jazz Studies Department will be hosting the Little Big Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble spring concerts on Friday, April 25, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Hornung Student Center.

The Little Big Band, directed by Dr. Brian Lydeen, director of bands and jazz studies, will be performing selections by Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Buddy Rich and the jazz-fusion group Spyro Gyra. They will also be featuring Travis Waas, senior Criminal Justice major, singing two Michael Bublé numbers with the band.

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by David Hein, assistant professor of music, will be performing the jazz standards “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)” by Duke Ellington and Loesser and Lowe’s “I’ve Never Been in Love.”  In addition, the concert will feature Rogers & Hammerstein’s “If I Loved You” from Carousel and an arrangement of “At Last,” a tune that was made famous by Etta James.
