Marian tennis clinches tourney berth with sweep of CUC

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Marian University women’s tennis (8-6, 5-3 NACC) clinched a berth into the NACC Tournament with a 9-0 road sweep of Concordia Chicago.

Juniors Meg Hartzell and Kristin Houle easily went on to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, while freshman Kyrsten Bruce and junior Celeste Degeneffe also cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

Bruce continued her big day with a sweep at No. 2 singles, while freshman Emma Lewandowski nearly had a straight sweep at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win.  Hartzell completed a sweep on the day at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win and sophomore Mackenzie Meyers completed the sweep at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win.

Meyers and Lewandowski took No. 3 doubles by default with Degeneffe and Houle taking No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, by default as well.

Marian closes out their conference schedule when they complete their postponed road match against Alverno tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 8.  The match was postponed from Saturday, Sept. 2 with the Sabres leading 3-0 following doubles action.
