MADISON, Wis. – Marian University softball (21-11, 13-5 NACC) continued their winning ways defeating Edgewood 3-2 and 7-1 on the road in NACC action.
The opener saw both pitchers toss strong games but the Sabres were able to get some timely hitting to earn the victory. Marian was able to record three consecutive singles in the top of the third before sophomore Peyton Loesch drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs to open the scoring. The Sabres once again struck with two outs when an error allowed junior Taylor Lauscher and senior Lindsey Strainis to score unearned runs. The Eagles were able to load the bases and score twice in the bottom of the seventh before a punch out from junior Paige Rauhut sealed the win.
Rauhut (10-5) allowed just six hits in the complete game effort striking out five hitters. Six different Sabres recorded a hit with sophomore Alexa Rodriguez and freshman Andrea Meagher each going 2-for-3.
After a scoreless opening frame, Marian was able to jump early on the Eagles plating three runs in the second inning of game two. Freshman Hannah Cozzi opened the scoring with an RBI double before freshman Kira Hall-Risor and sophomore Ally Fox each drove in a run with a single. Marian continued their scoring in the third inning with an RBI single from sophomore Katy Croeker and RBI groundout from Cozzi. Loesch was able to close out the Marian scoring in the fourth with an RBI single to left center field that plated Lauscher and Strainis.
Edgewood was once again able to end the shutout in the seventh inning but the Sabres were able to cruise to the sweep.
The offense was once again balanced with eight different Sabres recording at least one hit led by Loesch and Croeker who each had three-hit games. Loesch was also able to score twice and had multiple runs driven in along with Cozzi. In the circle, sophomore Myranda Schuttenhelm tossed a gem allowing only three hits in a complete game with four strikeouts.
Marian continues their NACC road trip Friday, April 26 playing at Benedictine for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
