MADISON, Wis. – Marian University men’s volleyball (4-0, 3-0 NACC) defeated Edgewood 25-19, 25-19, and 25-18 to sweep the Eagles in NACC action.
The Sabres opened with a 5-4 lead to open the first set before using an 11-5 run to take a commanding 16-9 advantage. The Eagles were able to cut their deficit down to as little as six, but the Sabres were able to close out the set at 25-19. The Marian offense had a strong start hitting .320 in the set with 12 kills.
Marian was able to jump out to a 10-3 lead to open the second set and held onto that advantage to easily win the second set. The Sabre defense had their best set of the night holding Edgewood to .091 hitting and only allowed eight kills. The final set was similar to the second as the Sabres jumped out to an 18-4 advantage. Edgewood would go on a 9-1 spurt to cut their deficit down to six, but the Sabres were able to hold off the come back and earn a sweep.
Junior Jacob Jurney had a dominating performance recording a match-high 14 kills off a .370 hitting percentage. Fellow junior Carzell Combs paced the back row with six digs, while junior Zach Zelenik assisted on 25 of the 30 Sabre kills. At the net, junior Liam Skinner continued to dominate recording four total blocks, one of which was a solo block.
Marian will next travel to MSOE Tuesday, March 2 for a 7 p.m. first serve in NACC action.
