RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Marian University men’s volleyball (10-10, 8-4 NACC) secured a season sweep of Concordia Chicago defeating the Cougars 25-20, 21-25, 25-11, and 25-15.
The opening set was tight with the Cougars taking a 17-15 lead but the Sabres finished the set out strong with a 10-3 run to take the opener. Marian hit .333 for the set with 14 kills to only two errors. The Cougars bounced back in the second evening the sets with four unanswered points at the end of the set.
The rest of the match, however, was all Marian as the Sabres held Concordia Chicago to only 26 points the rest of the match. The Sabre offense hit .625 in the third set with 16 kills to only one error, and the defense dominated the fourth set holding CUC to an even hitting percentage.
Senior Jon Smallpage had a match-high 14 kills to pace the offense and had 10 digs to complete a double-double. In the back row, senior Cullen Liberski had a match-high 21 digs, while fellow senior Joey Dittman had 35 assists, seven digs, and six kills.
At the net, Marian had 16 total blocks with freshman Liam Skinner recording one solo and seven block assists, while junior Jacob DeGroot had one solo block and six block assists.
Marian remains on the road to take on No. 5 Benedictine tomorrow, Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. in NACC action.
