ADRIAN, Mich. – The Marian University men’s volleyball (1-0, 0-0 NACC) offense hit .390 as the Sabres cruised past Adrian by set scores of 24-26, 25-19, 25-8 and 25-15.
Both offenses opened the match strong and a late push from Adrian at the end of the set gave the Bulldogs an early lead. The Sabres hit .481 with 14 kills, their most kills in any set of the night, but after leading 24-22, the Bulldogs rallied for four straight points to take the first set.
From there, however, the match was all Sabres as Marian dominated both sides of the ball. The Sabres held Adrian to a -.102 hitting percentage in the final three sets, while recording 35 kills on the offensive end. The Sabres were especially dominant in the third set where they closed out the set on a 13-2 run and hit .632 with 13 kills to only one error.
Senior Aaron Wendels had 17 kills to pace the offense with a .571 hitting percentage, while junior Jon Smallpage chipped in 14 kills and a .522 hitting percentage. In the back row, freshman Robert Walusay opened his Sabre career with a team-high seven digs.
From the service line, Marian had 11 aces with five Sabres recording multiple service aces.
Marian closes out the weekend taking on No. 5 New York at 2:30 p.m. and North Central (Ill.) at 5 p.m. with both matches at North Central (Ill.).
