Marian men’s volleyball dominates in sweep of Concordia Wisconsin

Marian University men’s volleyball (8-9, 6-3 NACC) continued their winning ways defeating CUW in straight sets 25-10, 25-17, and 25-15.
The Sabre defense was dominant throughout the match holding Concordia Wisconsin to a -.013 hitting percentage in the victory. The offense also set the tone early on recording a .500 hitting percentage in the opening set behind 15 kills to only two errors.
Marian opened the match with a 9-3 run and then closed out the opening set with another 9-3 run. Senior Jon Smallpage led Marian with six kills in the set off of a .556 hitting percentage, while freshman Jacob Jurney added four kills with a .571 hitting percentage.
Another hot start in the second set propelled the Sabres as Marian opened with a 16-9 lead thanks to a 10-4 run. Senior Cullen Liberski led the way in the set from the back row with seven digs in the set. An extended 10-3 run in the third set allowed Marian to open up a 22-9 lead in the third set and cruise to the sweep.
Smallpage finished with a match-high 12 kills, while fellow senior Ben Walter added 11 kills off of a .348 hitting percentage. From the back row, Liberski finished with a match-high 15 digs. Smallpage and freshman Liam Skinner each had three blocks at the net.
Marian closes out a four-match homestand hosting Aurora for a 1 p.m. first serve Saturday, March 16.
