Marian University men’s volleyball (4-4, 0-1 NACC) defeated Rockford in straight sets with scores of 25-12, 25-12, and 25-18.
The Sabre offense had a dominant match hitting .318 or better in all three sets leading to a .350 hitting percentage for the match. Marian jumped out to a 13-5 lead to open the first set and had a strong finish with a 7-2 run to take the opener. The Sabres jumped out to a quick start again in the second leading 18-6 to easily go ahead 2-0.
The final set proved to be a little tougher as Marian jumped out to a 9-4 lead only to have the Regents cut the lead down to two at 18-16. The Sabres were able to respond to the run closing out the match with a 7-2 run.
Sophomore Jacob Jurney led the way for Marian posting a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs, both match-high performances. Jurney also added three service aces to go with a .455 hitting percentage in the win.
Marian returns to the road traveling to Concordia Wis. for a 7 p.m. first serve Wednesday, Feb. 19.
