Marian University men’s soccer (1-2-0, 1-2-0 NACC) earned their first victory of the season defeating Wisconsin Lutheran 2-0 at home.
Sophomore Chase Hayden opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he bent in a shot from the top of the box, his second goal of the season, with an assist from freshman Giuliano Corazzina. The Sabre defense was put to work with senior Kevin Cervantes making six saves in the second half. Corazzina then gave Marian some breathing when he sent in a high shot that had just enough momentum to find the back of the net off the gloves of the WLC keeper. The goal was his third of the season and set the final at 2-0.
Hayden had three of his five shots go on net, while Corazzina had six shots in total with his only shot on goal finding the back of the net. Cervantes (1-0-0) stopped nine shots in the game to secure the third shutout of his career.
Marian closes a four-game homestand to open the season Sunday, March 28 for a 1 p.m. kick-off against Edgewood.
