PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Marian University men’s soccer (4-7-1, 1-4-0 NACC) earned their first conference victory of the season defeating Lakeland 2-0 on the road.
The Sabres scored a goal early and sealed the game late with freshman Chase Hayden scoring just 7:19 in to give Marian a 1-0 lead. Senior Josiah Kusik assisted the goal, which was the second of the season. The Sabres took this lead into halftime along with a slim 5-4 advantage in shots.
Marian once again outshot Lakeland in the second half by a margin of 6-3 with senior Chris Nelson putting away the game late after scoring a goal with just 3:45 left to play. The goal was his fourth of the season, third in the last four games, and was assisted by sophomore Brandon Mancini.
Kusik was the lone Sabre to record multiple shots in the defensive battle as Marian finished with an 11-7 advantage. Junior Kevin Cervantes (3-5-1) made five saves in the shutout with three of his stops coming in the first half.
Marian remains on the road traveling to Concordia Chicago for a noon kick-off Saturday, Oct. 12.
