Marian University men’s soccer (9-7-0, 4-4-0 NACC) remained in the hunt for a berth into the NACC Tournament with a 3-1 win over Wisconsin Lutheran.
Marian started the game fast finding the back of the net just 2:39 into the game. Senior Jose Luis Alvarado fed the ball to senior Muhammed Abshir who then fed the ball past the defense to senior Alonso Fragoso who buried the ball for his 22nd score of the year. WLC capitalized a little under five-minutes later off of a corner kick to put the score at 1-1, which eventually led to the halftime tally.
The Warriors held a slim 8-5 advantage in shots but only two of the MU shots were on frame.
The Sabres opened the scoring for the second half in the 52nd minute when Fragoso crossed the ball over to senior Israel Tovar who had an empty net to shoot at for his third goal of the year. The remainder of the game was a nail biter with each time finding quality opportunities to score. Fragoso eventually sealed the game in the 87th minute when he was able

The Cicero, Ill. went low and to the left post on the penalty kick for his second goal of the game, 23rd on the year, and his fifth point of the game. The goal also gave Fragoso 119 career points putting him ahead of Scott Merzlicker for the all-time Marian men’s soccer career leader for points.
WLC held an 18-11 shots advantage for the game but junior Ian Chacon (9-6-0) was up to the task stopping 11 shots.
Marian looks to keep their playoff hopes alive when they travel to Benedictine Saturday, Oct. 21 for a 7 p.m. kick off.
