WAUKESHA, Wis. – Marian University men’s lacrosse (2-5, 0-0 MLC) won their second straight game defeating Carroll 12-6 on the road.
The Sabres and Pioneers traded goals in the opening quarter with Nick Klotz and Jeremy Eisele each scoring for the Sabres before a six-goal second quarter gave Marian an 8-4 halftime lead. The Sabres scored the first five goals of the quarter with Connor Houlihan scoring the first three, one with a man-advantage, before Eisele netted another pair of goals. Brandon Baschnagel then closed out the scoring in the quarter for Marian with his first of the game.
Marian then played well defensively in the third and fourth quarter only allowing one goal in each quarter. Landen Macco and Baschnagel each scored goals in the third quarter, while Klotz and Nick Garcia each found the back of the net in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
C. Houlihan closed out the game with a hat trick and an assist, while Klotz also had a four-point game with a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Eisele also had a hat trick with Baschnagel recording a multi-goal game.
Gerlach led the Sabre defense with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Rob Wilson went 13-9 in the faceoff circle for Marian and also managed to grab six ground balls. Marcus Fosdick and Garcia each scooped up five ground balls in the win.
In goal, Gavin Taquino (1-5) earned his first victory making 13 saves with a 59.1-percent save percentage.
Marian opens MLC play when they travel to Monmouth (Ill.) Saturday, March 17 for a 1 p.m. start.
