CHICAGO – Marian University men’s lacrosse (4-4, 1-2 NACC) snapped a three-game losing streak defeating Illinois Tech 19-7.
The Sabres trailed the Scarlet Hawks early at 2-1 but Marian would score five unanswered to take a 6-2 lead in the first quarter. After scoring another pair of goals just 10 seconds apart to close out the quarter, Marian saw themselves ahead 8-3. Illinois Tech cut their deficit down to 8-6 after scoring the first three goals of the second quarter, but Marian answered with three goals of their own to go into the half ahead 11-6.
The third quarter was all Marian as the Sabres held IIT scoreless and found the back of the net four times to take a 15-6 lead into the final quarter. The Sabres continued to ride their momentum scoring the first three goals of the final stanza en route to the 19-7 final.
Junior Finn Maloney had four goals to lead the offense, while fellow junior Colt Robertson had two goals with five assists. In goal, sophomore Cameron Nevins (4-3) earned the win making four saves in the first half with fellow sophomore Richard Summers III taking over in the second half and making six saves on seven shots.
Marian opens the final homestand of the season taking on Edgewood Tuesday, April 13 for a 7 p.m. start.
