Marian University men’s lacrosse (4-8, 1-3 MLC) scored a season-high 23 goals as the Sabres defeated Concordia Chicago 23-2 for their first conference win in program history.
The Sabres would score four goals in the opening quarter, seven goals in the second and third quarters, and closed out the game with four goals in the fourth quarter. Not to be outdone, the Sabre defense doubled up CUC on ground balls by a 60-30 margin and forced 33 Cougar turnovers. Gavin Taquino earned the win in goal as his defense only allowed three shots on goal for the entire game.
Nick Klotz and Garrett Houlihan each had 10-point games with Klotz scoring four goals with six assists, while G. Houlihan netted a game-high eight goals with two assists. C. Houlihan also had seven points with three goals and four assists. Landen Macco and Brandon Baschnagel each had hat tricks, while Jeremy Eisele also had a three-point game with a goal and two assists. Nick Garcia added a goal and an assist with Andrew Desilva earning an assist to close out the Marian scorers.
Rob Wilson was dominant in the faceoff circle winning 15 of the 19 chances he had and also racked up a game-high 10 ground balls. Klotz and Tommy Gerlach each added eight ground balls with Gerlach also recording six caused turnovers.
Marian hits the road to take on Aurora Saturday, April 7 for a 1 p.m. start time in MLC action.
