ASHLAND, Wis. – Marian University men’s lacrosse (3-1, 1-1 MLC) used a nine-goal second quarter to pull away from Northland and defeat the LumberJacks 20-13.
After each team scored three goals in the opening quarter, freshman Finn Maloney would score three goals to open the second quarter and give the Sabres a lead they would not relinquish. Freshman Colt Robertson had a goal and three assists as Marian was able to take a 12-6 lead into halftime.
The third quarter once again saw each team score three goals before the Sabres closed out the victory outscoring Northland 5-4 in the final quarter. Robertson would net three more goals to lead the Sabres in the quarter.
Robertson finished with an eight-point game stemming from four goals and just as many assists, while Maloney also scored four goals. Freshman Vincent Mercadante led the way with 12 ground balls, while sophomore Tommy Gerlach also had seven ground balls.
In goal, freshman Johnny Estrade would make eight saves to earn the victory in goal.
Marian travels to Whittier Wednesday, March 20 for a 6:30 p.m. (CDT) non-conference game.
