Marian University men’s lacrosse (2-1, 1-1 MLC) used a big second quarter to defeat Monmouth 6-2 in MLC action.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Marian scored four goals in the first 9:32 of the second quarter to take the first lead. Finn Maloney opened the scoring before Colt Robertson netted a pair of goals and assisted Jeremy Eisele. The Fighting Scots were able to score a man-advantage goal with 1:29 left in the quarter to put the halftime tally at 4-1.
Monmouth was able to cut into their deficit with the only third-quarter goal. Marian was able to put the game away, however, scoring a pair of fourth-quarter goals. Nick Klotz scored with 11:41 left in the quarter, assist to Patrick Langeluttig for his second of the game before Austin Finley scored the final goal of the game.
Shots for the game finished with each side recording 27 but the Sabres dominated ground balls finishing with a 36-19 advantage. Marian also went 22-25 on their clear attempts.
Robertson led the offense with his three-point game to go with four ground balls, while Matt Htwe paced the defense with five caused turnovers and two ground balls.
In goal, freshman Johnny Estrada was dominant making 12 saves on the 14 shots he faced while holding the Fighting Scots to one man-advantage goal on seven opportunities.
Marian closes out the weekend tomorrow, Sunday, March 17, at Northland for a 1 p.m. start.
