LISLE, Ill. – Marian University men’s lacrosse (5-10, 2-5 MLC) used 15 goals in the second half to defeat Fontbonne 23-7 from Benedictine University.
The Sabres jumped out early on the Griffins limiting Fontbonne to only five shots in the first half as Marian took an 8-1 lead into halftime. Nick Klotz had a hand in six of the first half goals scoring four times and assisting two goals. Jeremy Eisele found the back of the net in both the first and second quarter with Garrett Houlihan and Andrew Desilva each scoring in the second quarter. The goal for Desilva was his first of the season.
Marian continued their dominance in the second half, especially on the offensive end, scoring eight goals in the third quarter and seven goals in the fourth quarter. In the third quarter, G. Houlihan scored four times, while Klotz added a pair of goals. Nick Garcia and Brandon Baschnagel also scored goals, while Eisele had a pair of assists.
Then in the final stanza, Landen Macco led the Sabres scoring three goals, while the Houlihan brothers each tallied a pair of goals to close out the Marian scoring.
Marian closed out the game with 67 shots in the victory and went 16-19 (.842) on their clear attempts.
Klotz and G. Houlihan each had eight-point games in the victory with six goals and a pair of assists. Klotz also caused three turnovers and tied with C. Houlihan and Duffney with a game-high seven ground balls. Along with his seven ground balls, Duffney also caused two turnovers.
Austin Finley earned his second win of the season in goal for the Sabres making three saves.
Marian opens the final week of the season Wednesday, April 25 traveling to Beloit for a 7 p.m. start.
