Marian men’s lacrosse cruises past Northland 21-2

Marian University men’s lacrosse (1-0, 0-0 MLC) defeated Northland 21-2 to open the season in non-conference action.
The first half was all Marian as the Sabres scored five goals in the first quarter and added three more in the second to go up 8-0 after 30 minutes. Freshman Richard Summers III would stop all four shots he saw in the half.
Sophomore Finn Maloney opened the scoring for the third period before back-to-back Northland goals cut the Sabre lead down to 9-2. The Sabres had a strong answer scoring seven unanswered to take a 16-2 lead into the final quarter. Marian once again held the LumberJacks scoreless in the final quarter and scored five more goals to finish off the 21-2 win.
Sophomore Colt Robertson paced the offense with five goals and four assists, while Maloney also added five goals. Junior Tommy Gerlach recorded a game-high nine ground balls and freshman Mason Powless caused five turnovers in the win.
Marian travels to Benedictine to open MLC play Saturday, Feb. 29 for a noon start.
