Marian men’s lacrosse closes out inaugural season at home

Marian University men’s lacrosse (5-12, 2-7 MLC) started fast but fell to MSOE 23-10 to close out their inaugural season.

The Sabres jumped out to an early 5-1 lead over the Raiders with Garrett Houlihan playing a part in four of the goals with three goals and one assist.  Brandon Baschnagel and Nick Klotz each scored goals as part of the fast start with the Klotz goal coming with a man-advantage.

The Raiders then scored the next four goals of the game as MSOE tied the game at 5-5 with 13:18 left in the second quarter.  The Sabres would manage to retake the lead with Klotz scoring and Nick Garcia finding the back of the net with an assist to Baschnagel, but from there the Raiders scored six unanswered goal to take an 11-7 advantage into the half.

MSOE continued to push with the momentum on their side scoring 12 of the first 13 goals in the second half.  The lone Sabre goal during this stretch would come from Klotz.  Marian would be able to close out the game scoring the final two goals with G. Houlihan scoring the first and Klotz finding the back of the net with a man-advantage to close out the 23-10 final.

Klotz led the scoring for Marian with four goals as he closed out the season with 43 goals and 28 assists for 71 points.  G. Houlihan also had a four-point game with three goals and one assist.

Tanner Duffney, Tommy Gerlach and Klotz each had six ground balls in the game with G. Houlihan also recording five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Austin Finley would make five saves in goal for the Sabres as he took the loss.

Marian closes out their inaugural season eighth in the MLC with the fifth highest point-scoring offense in the conference.
