October 24, 2019

WAUKESHA, Wis. – After reaching the NCHA Harris Cup semifinals for a fourth-straight season, Marian University men’s hockey received 76 points to finish third in the NCHA preseason poll, as voted on by the head coaches of the league.

St. Norbert claimed their 16th regular-season title in program history a season ago and was voted as the favorite to repeat receiving 99 points and nine of the 11 first-place votes.  Right behind the Green Knights was Adrian who finished with 91 points and the other two first-place votes after finishing last season ranked eighth by the USCHO.

The Sabres followed with their 76 points and will return several key student-athletes from a season ago.  Senior Hunter Vorva is the reigning player of the year and became the first All-American goalie a season ago after ranking seventh in the nation with a .937 save percentage and 13th in the country with a 1.84 goals-against average.  The offense returns their top scorer from a season ago in senior Conner Blanck (6-14–20) who led the squad in assists as well as points.  Fellow senior Clay Cross (7-9–16) also had a strong offensive year last season and led the team with four power-play goals and three game-winners.

MSOE, Aurora, and Lake Forest were all separated by one point apiece at 65, 64, and 63, respectively.  St. Scholastica wasn’t far off the pace with 50 points, while Concordia Wisconsin, Trine, Finlandia, and Lawrence round out the poll.
