Marian men’s hockey shuts out Bethel
November 27, 2017
Marian University men’s hockey (5-2-1, 2-2-0 NCHA) closed out a four-game stretch of non-conference games shutting out Bethel 2-0.
Senior Derek Thorogood closed out the weekend having a hand in every Sabre goal as he would score on the power play and assist the second goal of the day. His power play goal came at the 13:51 mark, his seventh goal of the year, with assists to fellow senior Hunter Stewart and freshman Dondre Watson. The goal came just eight seconds after the Royals were called for a slashing penalty.
Freshman Alex Cheveldave then lit the lamp for the first time in his career at the 9:31 mark with assists to Watson and Thorogood.
For the second consecutive Saturday game, sophomore Hunter Vorva recorded a shutout stopping all 19 shots he faced.
Marian held a 30-19 advantage in shots led by a game-high four shots from senior Braden Crone. Crone also had a good game in the face off circle where he went 9-4, while Thorogood also recorded nine face off wins.
Marian returns to NCHA action when they host Finlandia Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. from Blue Line.
