DULUTH, Minn. – Marian University men’s hockey (6-5-0, 4-1-0 NCHA) defeated St. Scholastica 3-2 to open an NCHA road series.
The Sabres were able to start fast with sophomore Jack Sampson scoring the lone goal of the period at the 5:40 mark. The goal was his fourth of the season and he was assisted by junior Nathan Walker and fellow freshman Dawson Schwengler.
A power-play goal from St. Scholastica midway through the second served as the equalizer, but Marian would retake the lead before the second intermission. Sophomore Brady Pupp was able to score his first-career goal with just 4:04 left on the clock to give the Sabres a 2-1 advantage heading to the third.
The Saints were once again able to find an equalizer midway through the period. The tie game didn’t last long, however, as just 51 seconds later sophomore Ty Enns scored his eighth goal of the year to put Marian ahead. Walker and junior Parker Colley each assisted the goal, which served as the game-winner.
St. Scholastica held a slight edge in shots at 29-26. Sophomore Colby Muise (5-2-0) continued his strong play of late making 27 saves to earn the win.
