Marian University men’s hockey (13-8-4, 11-5-2 NCHA) clinched home ice for the opening round of the NCHA Harris Cup with a 4-3 overtime victory over Northland.

Northland was able to open the scoring just 1:35 with a shorthanded goal, which proved to be the only tally for the opening period.  The Sabres bounced back in the second period recording 18 shots and finding the back of the net twice.  Junior Lawson MacDonald netted his second of the year at the 5:03 mark to open the scoring for the Sabres with assists to senior James Mathias and freshman Nathan Walker.

Freshman Yuri Chernichko then gave Marian their first lead of the game at the 16:59 mark with his sixth goal of the year, assists to MacDonald and Mathias.  The LumberJacks would find their equalizer, however, at the 3:16 mark of the third period to force overtime.

At the 2:46 mark of the extra period, freshman Parker Colley would light the lamp for the third time this season with assists to senior Nick Monfils and freshman Troy Ring.

Marian finished with a 41-33 advantage in shots with junior Hunter Vorva making 31 stops in the win.

Marian takes on Northland once again in the opening round of the NCHA Harris Cup playoffs with the opener of the series at 7 p.m. Friday, February 15.  The series will be two games with a mini-game, if necessary.
