Marian University men’s hockey (8-7-0, 5-3-0 NCHA) defeated Lawrence 3-1 to advance in the NCHA Harris Cup playoffs.
The Sabres came out of the gates and dominated in the opening period but were only able to score once. Freshman Ty Mosimann opened the scoring for the game at the 2:05 mark with his fourth goal of the season. Junior Parker Colley and freshman Mason Richey each earned an assist on the goal. The Vikings were able to respond at the 8:16 mark to put the score at 1-1 after one period. Marian had a 15-6 advantage in shots after the first period.
Another fast start to the period led to freshman Tanner Versluis scoring the first goal of his career at the 2:20 mark. Freshmen Anthony Bilka and Bronson Adams each earned an assist. Sophomore Jack Sampson hit a post in the third period but Colley was able to score his fifth goal of the season shortly after. Sophomore Ty Enns and Mosimann each earned an assist which proved to be the final goal in a 3-1 contest.
Marian finished with a 38-25 advantage in shots with sophomore Colby Muise (7-4-0) continuing his strong play with 24 saves. He also helped lead the penalty-kill unit to a perfect night stopping both Viking power plays.
Marian hosts St. Scholastica in the NCHA Harris Cup semifinals March 12-13 for two games and a mini-game, if necessary.
