Marian men’s golf takes fifth at MSOE Invitational

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. – Marian University men’s golf shot their lowest and third-lowest rounds of the season with a 297 and 304 to finish fifth at the MSOE Invitational.

The Sabres opened strong with a 297 in the first round, tied for the second-lowest round in program history.  Trent Thomas led the way for the Sabres in the opening round with a one-over-par 72.  The next three scores were separated by a stroke apiece with Tyler Demeuse shooting a 74, Maxwell Dye a 75, and Jake Sherwood a 76.  OJ Garcia rounded out the day one lineup with a 78 as Marian exited the first round in third.

Switching over to a par 72, Marian saw their score only jump by seven strokes with a 304 to finish with a 601 two-round total.  Dye had the lowest round with a 74 and led the Sabres with a 149, good for a tie for 11th.  Garcia saw a three-stroke improvement with a 75 in the second round to finish with a 153.  Sherwood was next in for Marian with a 77 to finish with 153, while Thomas finished in a tie for 19th with a 78 in his second round, 150 two-round total.  Demeuse completed the Marian lineup with a 79 and joined Garcia with a two-day total of 153.

Garvin Paper of Dubuque earned the individual title after finishing one stroke under par between the two rounds, while Edgewood won the team title after a two-round total of 588.

Marian heads to Whistling Straits for the first two rounds of the NACC Championship Oct. 6-7.
