Marian men’s basketball holds on for 74-66 win at Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill – Marian University men’s basketball (6-15, 4-12 NACC) won their second straight game defeating Dominican 74-66 on the road.
The Marian offense shot the lights out all night long, especially in the first half where the Sabres went 18-28 (.643) from the field including 6-9 (.667) from three-point range. After the Stars took a 24-21 lead with 10:49 left in the opening stanza, the Sabres rattled off 21-4 run to take a commanding 42-28 lead with 4:52 to play in the first half. The Sabres cruised with this lead and took a 47-35 into halftime.
A 16-6 Dominican run would cut the Star deficit down to as little as one at 57-56 with 9:35 remaining to play, but the Sabres managed to string together an 8-2 run immediately following to cushion the lead. Marian would also outscore the Stars 6-2 in the final 3:41 of the game to secure the road victory.
Marian closed out the game going 28-46 (.609) from the field with a three-point field goal percentage of 50.0-percent at 7-14.
Sophomore Tavaris McCullough had a big game for Marian scoring a career-high 27 points off of 10-14 (.714) shooting with three assists. Junior Will Polczynski came off the bench to chip in nine points and grab a team-high six rebounds.
Marian remains on the road traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday, February 9 for a 2 p.m. tip.
