Marian University men’s soccer (3-0-0, 0-0-0 NACC) continued their dominant play with a 2-0 win over Beloit in non-conference action.
In a game that saw 13 cards, Marian was able to come up with another shutout to defeat Beloit. Senior Alonso Fragoso received a pass in from fellow senior Jose Luis Alvarado and beat the keeper to put the Sabres on the board just 4:44 in the game. The goal was number three on the season for Fragoso. The Marian offensive pressure continued and MU finished the half with a 9-6 advantage in shots.
The Buccaneers would outshoot the Sabres in the second half putting four shots on frame. It was in the 71st minute when senior Muhammed Abshir continued his hot play when he netted his fifth goal of the season. Abshir received a long pass from senior Grant Meerdink and took advantage of miscommunication between the Beloit keeper and defender to find an open net.
Marian finished the game with 13 shots, five on goal, led by Abshir who had four shots, two on frame. Junior Ian Chacon (3-0-0) stopped all five shots he faced and turned away a penalty kick for his seventh career shutout, moving him into a tie for sixth all-time.
The Sabres remain at home for a 12:30 non-conference game against Albion Saturday, Sept. 9.
