MEQUON, Wis. – Marian University baseball (5-15, 1-1 NACC) split with Concordia Wisconsin to open NACC play.
Marian was able to put together three big innings to earn an extra-innings victory in game one by a 10-7 final. After CUW plated a run in the first, sophomores Robbie Knorr and Riley Palmquist each brought in runs to put Marian ahead 3-1. The Falcons tied the game in the fourth but that tie only lasted half an inning.
The Sabres were able to put up four runs in the top of the fifth with senior Nick Bastien bringing in a pair of runs followed by another pair of runs driven in for Palmquist. The Falcons were able to tie the game in the final three innings and force extras. A squeeze from senior Michael Snow gave the Sabres a lead to open the 10th before back-to-back hit by pitches plated runs to bring the final tally to 10-7.
Offensively, senior Jonah Landowski went 3-for-5 with a run scored, while Palmquist finished 2-for-4 with four driven in.
The second game was all Falcons as CUW scored in the first inning once again and never looked back as the Sabre offense could only manage five hits in a 9-0 defeat. Knorr had the lone multi-hit game in the game two going 2-for-4.
Marian is scheduled to close out their series with CUW at home tomorrow, Monday, April 12, for a 1 p.m. twin bill.
