FOND DU LAC / MADISON, Wis. – Marian University ACHA hockey (2-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHL) defeated Wisconsin 7-2 at home before completing a sweep of the Badgers with a 7-3 road victory.
The Sabres jumped all over Wisconsin in the opener with all of the scoring coming in the first two periods. The Sabres took a 3-1 lead after the opening period, with two goals coming just 15 seconds apart, and extended their lead with four goals in the second period. Four different Sabres had multi-point games in the victory led by Kirill Proskurin and Anthony Keeper who each scored a pair of goals and added an assist. Tanner Duffney scored a goal and added an assist, while Connor Martin had a pair of assists.
Miles Giorgione and Nikita Sokov had the final goals in the game with Dan Liberko, Tyren Boots, Connor Rosaasen and Paul Kinder all assisting a goal in the victory. Justin Davidson earned the win in goal for the Sabres and not only stopped 37 of the 39 shots he faced, but also assisted a goal.
In the finale, the Badgers looked poised to earn a split in the series taking an early 3-1 lead, but the Sabres were then able to score six unanswered goals and earn the sweep. Keeper had the lone goal for the Sabres heading into the second period before Martin scored twice and Rosaasen lit the lamp once in the second period to give Marian a slim 4-3 lead. Keeper then extended the lead with his second goal of the game to open the third period before a pair of goals from Sokov iced the win.
Keeper finished with his second consecutive three-point game to lead Marian, while Martin and Sokov each had multi-goal games. Proskurin, Rosaasen, and Kinder each had multi-point games as well.
Davidson earned his second win in goal in as many games stopping 27 of the 30 shots he faced.
Marian travels to Lewis Sept. 28-29 for their first NCHL series of the season with the opener of the series at 7:30 p.m.
