Mangone named AHCA Second Team All-American

BOSTON – Marian University men’s hockey sophomore defenseman Gianni Mangone has been named a second team All-American by the AHCA.

Mangone had another big year at the Sabre blue line and adds to his awards and accolades after being named to the All-NCHA team earlier this offseason.  The sophomore led All NCHA defensemen with nine goals on the season and ranked third in the NCHA amongst all defensemen with 20 points.  His seven power play goals also led all NCHA defenseman and ranked 16th in the nation amongst all skaters.  Mangone’s 0.80 points per game average was also 16th in the country, third in the NCHA.  The Sabre blue liner earned one NCHA Defensive Player of the Week award after a five-point weekend against rival Lawrence.

Mangone becomes the first All-American since Dakota Dubetz was named Reebok Second Team All-American for the west region following the 2010-11 season.
