ASHLAND, Wis. – Marian University men’s soccer (3-1-0, 0-0-0 NACC) scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat Northland 3-2 on the road.
The Sabres wasted no time to open the scoring as sophomore Brandon Mancini was able to find the back of the net just 1:37 in with an assist to freshman Walter Sebastian. The remainder of the opening stanza was a defensive battle that saw Marian take a 7-4 advantage in shots and 1-0 score into halftime.
The second half featured a lot more offense with a total of 22 shots fired between the two squads. The LumberJacks were able to knot things up in the 68th minute and took their first lead of the game 12 minutes later.
Marian rallied, however, as Mancini netted his second of the game to tie the score at the 81:21 mark. Freshmen Max Kauffman and Chris Schwantes each earned an assist on the play. Mancini then completed the come back with his third goal of the game in the 86th minute, assist to sophomore Tallon Schuster.
Marian closed out the game with a 19-14 advantage in shots led by Mancini who had a team-high five. Junior Kevin Cervantes (2-0-0) earned the win in goal making seven stops, five of which came in the second half.
Marian plays their first home game of the season hosting UW-Whitewater Wednesday, Sept. 11 for a 7 p.m. kick-off from the Fond du Lac Soccer Complex.
