June 19, 2019

Student Cullen LiberskiAUSTIN, Texas – Senior Cullen Liberski of Marian University men’s volleyball became the second Marian student-athlete in as many years to be named to a Google Cloud Academic All-American® earning a spot on the third team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Google Cloud Academic All-America program was created in the 1950’s and has become known as one of the most prestigious honors as it takes into account athletic achievement and academic success.  The program requires student-athletes achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and play a prominent role on their team.

Liberski earned his second Defensive Player of the Year award in his career this past season after being named the MCVL Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore.  Liberski led not only the NACC but the entire nation in digs per set during the season finishing with 4.02 digs per set and 346 total digs.  He closed out an incredible career that saw him set an NCAA Division III all-time record for digs with 1,316, and digs per set at 3.53.  Liberski posted 20 double-digit dig performances this season with five of those matches seeing him record 20 or more digs.   A 27-dig performance against then-ranked No. 9 Benedictine proved to be his season-high in a four-set loss for the Sabres.  This past season marked the third time Liberski was named all-conference in his career but the first time he was selected to the first team.

For the academic side of the award, Liberski graduated this past May with a degree in business administration posting a final grade point average of 3.95.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America teams are voted on based off of the All-District teams from all eight districts throughout the country.  Liberski is one of only one of two men’s volleyball players to earn an All-American selection as part of the at-large group that combines several sports including fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men’s volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.
