Late rally falls short for Marian men’s soccer in 4-2 loss to MSOE

October 17, 2019

Marian University men’s soccer (4-9-1, 1-6-0 NACC) outscored MSOE in the second half but fell to the Raiders by a 4-2 final.

The Sabres started slowly as MSOE outshot Marian 13-2 in the opening half and found the back of the net three times, once off of a penalty kick.  The Sabres bounced back with freshman Chase Hayden scoring his fourth goal of the season in the 67th minute to cut the Marian deficit to two.  Hayden scored with a header off of a free-kick from junior Cade Klusendorf.

After another penalty kick goal from the Raiders, senior Chris Nelson scored his fifth goal of the year in the 84th minute.  Nelson was able to volley a cross from Hayden, who earned an assist, and snuck his shot inside the left post.

Junior Kevin Cervantes (3-7-1) made five saves in the defeat with three of his stops coming in the first half.

Marian travels to Rockford Saturday, Oct. 19 for a 3 p.m. kick-off before returning home for their final two home games.
