Klotz named Rookie of the Year to highlight All-MLC selections

A Lacrosse playerWAUKESHA, Wis. – A total of three members from the Marian University men’s lacrosse team earned All-MLC honors announced the league office Friday.

Nick Klotz (Farmington, Minn.) was named the Rookie of the Year for the MLC and earned a spot on the All-MLC second team after leading the Sabres in scoring all season long.  Klotz not only led the Sabres in scoring but proved himself as one of the top scorers in the entire conference.  His first year as a Sabre saw him finish second in the conference with 71 points, third in the MLC with 43 goals and fourth with 28 assists.  Klotz was named the MLC Player of the Week twice during the season and had two games this season where he had double-digit points.  He also scored six goals in a single game twice this season.

Garrett Houlihan (Bridgeview, Ill.) was named to the All-MLC honorable mention team as an attacker after a strong freshman campaign.  Houlihan was the second-best scorer for the Sabres with 39 goals and 49 points, while also recording 10 assists to finish third on the team despite only playing in 14 games.  The Sabre attacker set a single-game record for the Sabres when he scored eight goals against Concordia Chicago and also recorded his first career double-digit point game in that victory.

Nick Garcia (Helena, Mont.) earned a spot on the All-MLC sportsmanship making him the lone Sabre defender to earn MLC honors.  Garcia played in 13 games this season with seven goals and four assists for a total of 11 points.  The Sabre defender also recorded 20 ground balls and only turned over the ball 16 times on the year.

In just their inaugural season, the Sabres won five games and averaged 9.65 goals per game.  Marian finished eighth in the MLC with a 2-7 record and had five losses this season decided by three or fewer goals.
