AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Tyler Gouin of Marian University men’s basketball has been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American Third Team.

The Academic All-America program run by CSC is considered one of the most prestigious awards as it is one of the few awards that combines academics and athletics. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average at their current institution. The student-athlete must also be at least a sophomore and have been attending their current institution for a full calendar year.

Gouin (Hartland, Wis.) had a historic season and was one of the top scorers in the NACC all season long. Gouin set a single-season Marian record averaging 20.4 points per game breaking a record that has stood since the 1986-87 season. This average put him second in the conference while his 530 total points led the NACC and put him 33rd in the nation. He also ranked second in the NACC, 20th in the country, for field goals made with 198 and free throws made with 117. Along with his scoring Gouin was fifth in the NACC with 102 assists and sixth in the conference with a 1.85 assist to turnover ratio. He had 15 games this season where he scored at least 20 points with a season-high 40 coming on the road at Lakeland. That performance would earn him his lone NACC Player of the Week award for the season. Gouin also had nine games this season with at least five assists and became the 21st member of the Marian University men’s basketball 1,000-point club at Edgewood.

Gouin becomes just the eighth Academic All-American in the entire Sabre athletics and is the first honoree since 2019 when Cullen Liberski of Marian men’s volleyball also earned a spot on the third team. Gouin is just the second Sabre men’s basketball student-athlete to earn this recognition joining Scott Jaeger who earned a spot on the first team in 2002.
