Junior Tyler Gouin of Marian University men’s basketball and sophomore Kayla Kolpitcke of Marian University women’s hockey have been named the Sabres of the Month for November.
Gouin (Hartland, Wis.) paced the offense for Marian men’s basketball during November to earn Sabre of the Month honors. He averaged 21.0 points per game, second in the NACC while shooting 53.8-percent from the field. Gouin opened the season with a career-high 42 points against Lawrence to lead Marian to a 91-81 win. He went 16-22 (.727) from the field and went on to earn NACC Player of the Week honors. He has made at least five field goals in the other three games during the month with at least 12 points scored. Through 15 games in his young Sabre career, Gouin is averaging 18.3 points per game with six games where he has scored at least 20 points.
Kolpitcke (Powell, Wyo.) had a busy month between the pipes to earn a Sabre of the Month nod. She has been the only Sabre goalie to see action so far this season posting a 3.25 goals-against average with a .928 save percentage on the year. Her 295 saves during November currently has her ranked second in the NCHA for the category. Kolpitcke opened the season with a career-high 51 saves against UW-Stevens Point and has recorded at least 40 saves in five games. She was also able to end the month on a strong note earning back-to-back wins, the first wins of her career. In her final game during November, Kolpitcke posted her first shutout making 40 saves against St. Catherine earning her NCHA Player of the Week honors.
Marian men’s basketball opens NACC play tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 1, taking on Rockford at 7 p.m., while Sabre women’s hockey opens a two-game home series against Trine Friday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.
