Early goal not enough for Marian men’s soccer

October 9, 2017

Marian University men’s soccer (7-6-0, 2-4-0 NACC) opened the scoring but Aurora managed to rally for four unanswered goals to knock off the Sabres.

Senior Israel Tovar netted his second goal on the year to open the scoring in the 20th minute when he went streaking past the defense and fellow senior Muhammed Abshir sent it his way for an assist.  A little over two minutes Aurora would benefit from a Marian own goal to know the score before the Spartans took the lead with only 24 seconds left in the half.

The Spartans would need only 2:05 into the second half to extend on their lead and a penalty kick in the 56th minute led AU to the 4-1 win.

Aurora finished with an 18-7 shots advantage with seven different Sabres recording a shot in the loss.  Junior Ian Chacon fell to 6-5-0 on the year making six saves.

Marian next travels to UW-Platteville Wednesday, Oct. 11 for a 7 p.m. kick off.
