Eagles too much for Sabre men’s lacrosse

April 3, 2018

LISLE, Ill. – Marian University men’s lacrosse (3-8, 0-3 MLC) started slow and could never catch up falling to Benedictine 13-6 in MLC action.

The Sabres would only manage to score one goal in the opening half when Connor Houlihan scored without an assist as the Eagles opened up a 5-1 lead at halftime.

The Marian offense was able to find a groove in the third quarter as each team managed to score four goals heading into the final quarter.  Garrett Houlihan found the back of the net with a man-advantage to open the quarter without an assist before Nick Garcia scored with an assist to Nick Klotz.  Klotz then closed out the scoring for the Sabres scoring the final pair of goals for the quarter, one with a man-advantage.

The Eagles were able to end any thoughts of a comeback outscoring Marian 4-1 in the fourth quarter with C. Houlihan scoring the lone Sabre goal with an assist to Brandon Baschnagel.

Klotz closed out the game with three points to lead the offense, while C. Houlihan had a multi-goal game.  Tommy Gerlach led the Sabres on the other end of the field with six ground balls.

Gavin Taquino took the loss in goal for Marian but made 15 saves with a 53.6-percent save percentage.

Marian returns home when the Sabres host Concordia Chicago at 1 p.m. from Smith Field Saturday, March 31.
