Davis to join Marian lacrosse coaching staff for inaugural season

July 5, 2017

Marian University men’s lacrosse head coach Reid Mayberry has announced the hiring of Nathaniel Davis as an assistant coach.

“We are truly thrilled to announce such a phenomenal addition to our coaching staff,” commented Mayberry.  “Coach Davis’ impressive resume speaks for itself with coaching at the Division I level back east along with Division III recruiting here in the midwest.  His enthusiasm, knowledge of the game and desire to be great makes him a perfect fit for the Marian lacrosse program.”

Davis joins Marian after serving as the assistant men’s lacrosse coach for the University of Dubuque in 2017. During his time at Dubuque, the Spartans recorded the best season in program history going 10-7.  Davis worked with the face off, man down, defensive, and goalie units. The UD man down defense was a top 30 program nationally with a 79-percent success rate and a commanding 84-percent successful clear rate.

In the 2015 season, Davis was at Division I, Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland as the assistant men’s lacrosse coach and director of lacrosse operations working as a defensive, goalie, and face off.  He also assisted with recruiting, scouting, and film reports in the journey to wins over solidified programs such as No. 20 Bucknell, Hobart, and Furman University.

Davis also spent two seasons as the Head Boy’s Lacrosse Coach and Assistant to the Athletic Director at his alma mater, York High School. In those two seasons, he compiled the best record in over 15 seasons of program history including a 12-6 record in 2012 with a state semifinal appearance.  That 2012 season also produced an Academic All-American, two All-Conference selections, and the squad was tabbed a top five team to watch by the Portland Press Herald. He also facilitated and reconfigured the Atlantic Sportswear 2013 Maine Senior All-Star Selection Game.

Davis spent the fall of 2012 as the assistant special teams coach and film coordinator at The Williams College, Massachusetts (NESCAC).  Williams College went on to win the 2012-2013 NACDA Learfield Sports Director’s Cup as the most successful athletic department in all of NCAA Division III.

Davis has coached camps and clinics at Towson University, Ohio State University, University of Notre Dame, University of Michigan, University of Detroit Mercy, University of Delaware, University of Denver, Cleveland State University, Endicott College, Gettysburg College, University of Massachusetts, and the University of New Hampshire.

Davis played for Norwich Military University men’s lacrosse program, also serving as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative for the program. Davis traveled to The Beijing Sports University in China as a face-off midfielder as part of the USA U-21 team for the Summer Friendship Games against teams from China, Japan, and Korea.

“I can not be any more honored by the opportunity coach Mayberry has given me to be a part of something truly very special as the Marian University men’s lacrosse program’s inaugural season,” commented Davis.  “Mayberry’s proven track record of being a part of multiple conference coach of the year accolades and his work as an expert recruiter is something I have admired. I am very grateful to be welcomed to the Marian Sabre athletics family and blessed to be a part of the university community.”

Davis served for the AmeriCorps, in conjunction with the American Red Cross Disaster Relief and Habitat for Humanities, during Hurricane Katrina in Past Christian, Mississippi in 2008 and Hurricane Irene, in Central Vermont in 2010.  He also served the OUR House of Central Vermont, a children’s advocacy center.
