Wayne Buteyn was selected as Marian University’s Veteran of the Month.
Buteyn, who was raised in Waupun, served in the army for two years in the United States and one year in Vietnam where he was a weatherman.
“I am honored and humbled by this award. Everything that happened during the Vietnam War was difficult, but it was definitely worth it,” said Buteyn. “In the military, there is so much out there for individuals, especially when considering one’s personal and professional goals.”
Buteyn has served a funeral director for more than 40 years at Werner Harmsen, located in Waupun, Wis.
The Veteran of the Month contest, presented by Marian University and Sunny 97.7/96.1 WTCX, highlights one area veteran each month. Each veteran chosen receives a plaque, an appreciation package from Marian University and Sunny 97.7’s sponsors, including a 3 credit undergraduate class which can be redeemed in the traditional undergraduate program or any of adult undergraduate sessions. In addition, recipients are honored with a monthly ceremony at Marian University, and have the opportunity to share their story on the radio.
Deserving veterans may be nominated by visiting http://www.radioplusinfo.com/2014/10/17/veteranofthemonth/. Marian University will select one veteran at the end of each month.
