Cusey (Mankato, Minn.) had a strong month between the pipes for the Sabres to be named the Sabre of the Month. In three starts for the month, Cusey made a total of 137 saves with a 3.73 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. Cusey made at least 45 saves in all three starts and had an especially strong series against Concordia Wisconsin. In the opener against the Falcons, she held CUW to only two goals making 45 stops. She then recorded the first shutout of her career in the finale making 46 saves in a 0-0 tie to earn Marian their first point in conference play. Cusey also held Concordia Wisconsin scoreless on eight power-play chances in the series.
Blanck (Fond du Lac, Wis.) averaged a point a game to lead the Marian offense in the first month of the season. Blanck scored five times with four assists for nine points during November with two of his scores coming on the power play. He would record at least one point in all but three games and had three multi-point games. Blanck had back-to-back three-point weekends to close out the opening month of the season including a strong series against then-ranked No. 15 St. Norbert. Against the Green Knights, Blanck netted both game-winners as part of the first sweep of St. Norbert in program history and added an assist in the opener. His goal in the second game of the series came with just 28 seconds left in overtime while the Sabres were on a power play. Blanck has 23 goals and 25 assists for 48 points in his Sabre career.
Marian women’s hockey takes on Finlandia on the road Dec. 7-8 to close out the first half of the season, while the Marian men’s hockey team hosts Aurora at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 in their final home game of the first half.
