Bender led the Sabres in scoring with 69 points for an 11.5 points per game average during the month of December. She also ranked second on the squad with 4.5 rebounds per game, while leading the squad with 15 assists and 11 steals. Bender was a consistent scorer for the Sabres all month long with double-digit points in four of six games with her 17 points against Concordia Wisconsin. The Markesan, Wis. native ranks seventh in the NACC with 61 made field goals and 34 minutes played per game.
Vorva continued his dominance in net for the Sabres as he led the Sabres to a 3-1-0 record in December and a Superior Showdown title. Vorva only allowed six goals for the month for a 1.50 goals against average to go with 76 saves for a .927 save percentage. The sophomore net minder allowed two or fewer goals in all three wins and only allowed three goals against No. 1 St. Norbert. Vorva currently ranks second in the NCHA with eight wins, fourth in the conference with 276 saves and sixth in the NCHA with a 1.91 goals against average. The Kalamazoo, Mich. native also posted his third shutout of the season against then-ranked No. 13/14 MSOE and is one of only four goaltenders in the country to post that many shutouts so far this season.
Marian women’s basketball returns to action tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 7:15 p.m. when the Sabres travel to Rockford, while the men’s hockey squad travels to Concordia Wisconsin for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop Friday, Jan. 6.
