Graduation FAQ – December 2019
Q: When do I get my cap and gown and other graduation items?
A: Regalia not ordered for home delivery may be picked up at the Marian University Bookstore on or after November 23. Those who do have their regalia shipped to their home can pick up their graduation information packet and wristbands from the Office of the President on the main campus any time after November 23 or can have them mailed upon confirmation of their mailing address to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Pre-Commencement Ceremony Events
Q: I am a PhD in Educational Leadership student. Is it appropriate for me to go to the Teacher Commissioning Ceremony?
A: The Teacher Commissioning Ceremony is for undergraduate students who have earned initial teaching licenses, and graduate students who have completed the Teacher Education or the Special Education program.
Q: Where do I order my cap and gown?
A: Orders should be placed online at https://collegegrad.herffjones.com. You can purchase cap and tassel, gown, hoods, class rings, graduation announcements, and more. You will have a home delivery option (at a fee) or delivery to campus. Doctoral students must order their academic regalia directly from the Marian University Bookstore.
Q: What color are the Commencement gowns?
Q: What color are the Master’s and Doctoral hoods?
A: The velvet on the master’s and doctoral hoods designate the program of study and are as follows: Master of Science in Nursing (apricot), Master of Arts in Education (light blue), Master of Science (gold), Doctor of Philosophy (dark blue).
Q: When is the hooding of Master’s and Doctoral students?
A: Master’s students walk into the ceremony with their hood already on. Faculty will be on hand in the robing area to assist with hooding. Doctoral students are hooded on stage by their dissertation chairs.
Q: How do I order honors cords?
A: Honors cords for academic (Latin) honors are ordered by Marian University and distributed by the Office of the Registrar at check-in for the Commencement ceremony to undergraduate students who have earned them. Cords for the various honor societies are distributed by the honor society advisors.
Q: How many wristbands can I request for the Commencement ceremony?
A: The maximum number of wristbands each graduate can receive initially is four (4). Additional wristbands may become available and you should indicate your interest on the RSVP form.
Q: I have more guests who would like to attend the Commencement ceremony than the allotted number of wristbands. Can they still attend?
A: Guests without wristbands can watch a live stream of the ceremony in the Dr. Richard and Leslie Ridenour Science Center.
Q: I have a guest who requires handicap seating. How do I notify the graduation coordinator?
A: When you complete the Graduation RSVP you can indicate handicap seating needs. If you already submitted your RSVP and did not make this indication, please email email@example.com.
Q: I have mobility issues that might not make it feasible for me to participate in the processional and/or to go on stage to receive my diploma. What should I do?
A: Please indicate this on the RSVP form (graduate with mobility issues) and contact the graduation coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss options for your participation in the ceremony.
Q: Can I get a copy of the video recording of the Commencement ceremony?
A: Yes! You can download it from the Marian website following the ceremony.
