8.9.2017 – Faces of Marian: Kate Candee
“I was born in Milwaukee, WI and grew up in the Campbellsport area where my summer job was as a swimming instructor throughout high school and college. I like the silent sports; golfing, biking, running, walking, hiking, and swimming. I went to college to study political science and received my Master’s in curriculum and supervision. I came to the Fond du Lac area and I’ve worked here for 30 years!
I always wanted to work in higher education. I started working in the adult graduate studies program at Marian University. I wanted to have more face to face time with students, so I was able to grow through the organization and have a new job every 5-6 years to bring me closer to that goal.
Within student engagement, my role is to oversee the services outside of the classroom such as resident life, health services, wellness services, and safety and security. I also oversee Marian’s TRIO programs. As the Title IX Coordinator, I make sure people are living our mission and core values of respecting individual’s, especially when it comes to prevention of sexual misconduct and sexual violence on campus.
My favorite things about Marian University are the core values and the students. Without a doubt. I always say our sixth core value hospitality and it’s what Marian is all about. Seeing the students’ transformation is what keeps me here. I mean it. It’s true. Especially this time of year as everyone is coming back and we have new students. It’s going to be an exciting year! We have lots of great things happening. The science building renovations are starting soon, the renovations on Herr-Baker field have been amazing, we have the Dock Spiders, and we’ve created even more student space.”
