Student Mariam AweMariam Awe is a freshmen nursing major, minoring in community health and human services.

“I’m from Bolingbrook, Illinois. I am Nigerian. I have one hobby and that is singing. I also like to make people laugh and by that, I mean I like to make jokes.

The small campus and community is what brought me to Marian. I get a lot of support from this campus. The professors and staff here are supporting and want you to succeed. I chose Marian for their nursing program because I want to make an impact in people’s lives and aid them in their needs. I think I can make an impact with a nursing degree.

I am a member of the Black Student Union (BSU) and I am a student worker in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

My advice to incoming students is to join clubs and be involved on campus. Also, learn to prioritize your time. There are 30,000 things to do…learn what needs to get done now and what can get done later.”
