4.10.2019 – Faces of Marian: Jesstys Volbrecht
Jesstys Volbrecht, a sophomore from Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, is majoring in forensic science and minoring in Spanish. She is currently studying abroad in Triana, Spain for the semester. She is studying at Universidad Pablo de Olavide and says that everyday has been an adventure full of culture. Her classes include organic chemistry; Christianity, Judaism, and Islam in the Spanish Context; intercultural communication, and history of Flamenco. She has also had the opportunity to travel to Madrid, Toledo, Carmona, Paris, and Gilbralter. One of her favorite aspects of Spain is the sweets because they have cheap but delicious pastries and excellent gelato. She spends much of her free time exploring the Plaza de España which was shown in “Star Wars,” reading “Game of Thrones,” and researching new places to visit.
Jesstys chose Marian because of the forensic science program and the friendly people on campus. She is involved with Student Association of Smiles and Happiness, the Forensic Science Association, Outdoor Adventure Club, the Marian Activities Committee, and the Honor’s Program. Her advice to students is “Join clubs with your friends and make new friends in clubs as well. The mandatory participation and weekly activities will be worth fitting them into your busy schedule.”
