Emily VandenHouten is a first year nursing major, minoring in psychology. She is a member of the Marian University Student Nurses Association (MUSNA) and is in the Honors Program.

“I grew up in a small town called Luxemburg-Casco with my family of five. I have one brother and one sister. Some fun facts about me are I played the violin which I started when I was in the fifth grade, and I like to rollerblade. Also, I’m studying abroad in Ireland coming up in May which I found out about through the Honors Program. I have traveled before; to Mexico multiple times, the Dominican Republic, New York, Washington D.C., and a few other states.

My dream job would be working locally with pre-mature babies. I have a passion for helping people and I’ve been through stuff where nurses have helped me. After graduation, I’d like to do the Nurse Practitioner program which is another 2 years I think.

One of my favorite memories at Marian was when my friends and I saw the hypnotist show that was here and we laughed super hard at all the people hypnotized. Another time, it was pretty nice out and a bunch of the guys in our Courtyard had a grill-out outside of our buildings so that was cool.

When I toured Marian it felt like home. The people were great and made me feel like I belonged here. I definitely made the right choice. The people are so friendly and so open and are always willing to help you with everything you need.”
