Literature in English translation from Francophone African countries is used to explore universal and country-specific themes of the human condition. Literature will be framed in a context that explores
historical influences, current implications, and future ramifications for the region and its place in our world. Novels include authors from Francophone sub-Saharan countries as well as those of the Maghreb (Algeria,
Morocco, and Tunisia). This course is taught in English.
