7 on 7 Film Series: Diary of a Country Priest
7 p.m.
Stayer Center Auditorium

Marian’s 7 at 7 Film Series invites the university and Fond du Lac community to enjoy a range of classic masterpieces and experimental movies from around the world. Introductions and discussions led by Marian instructors considering issues of perception, memory, adaptation and identity invite us to explore how film shape the way we see the world and how we might become better members of it.

Diary of a Country Priest, a 1950 French film by Robert Bresson, follows the life of a young clergyman as he tries to fulfill his duties in a hostile village. Regarded as a masterpiece of ascetic and minimalist filmmaking, this movie explores the sights and sounds that represent the priest’s soul as it struggles to remain in a state of grace. Introduction and discussion provided by Dr. Justin Ponder, Marian University Associate Professor of English whose forthcoming book, Art Cinema and Theology: The Word Was Made Film (Palgrave Macmillan) examines how Diary of a Country Priest and other international movies represent spiritual issues in cinematic ways.
