Marian University’s Institute of Professional Development offers a distinct combination of quality professional development and ongoing education for business, education, non-profits, and lifelong learners, both regionally and nationally.

The Program

At Marian, we aim to develop leaders who make a positive impact in their field. Offered through our Office of Adult and Online Studies, the Institute of Professional Development supports those committed to excellence in their profession. Through the Institute, you’ll find a comprehensive and inclusive approach to learning at an affordable cost. You’ll participate in continuing education and development courses, learning collaboratively with others. You can choose courses and workshops centered on a variety of topics, including grant writing, food safety, community service officer training, communication, leadership, and others. Educators may be interested in at-risk and alternative education, differentiated instruction, co-teaching, assessment, technology in education, data-driven instruction, and teacher effectiveness.

The Convenience

The Institute of Professional Development is designed with the needs of working professionals in mind. We provide professional development opportunities in a variety of formats, including online courses, webinars, face-to-face courses, workshops, and in-services. And we offer opportunities for administrative, management, faculty, and staff development through personally designed in-services, with the option of earning graduate credits.

Our speakers and faculty members are available to provide content-based consultation and facilitation of focused professional development at your location or on campus. Marian can work with you to customize professional development workshops, courses, certificate programs, or seminars based on your needs and requirements.

National Professional Development Standards
Standards for Professional Learning
PD Standards

These standards call for a new form of educator learning. The decision to call these Standards for Professional Learning rather than Standards for Professional Development signals the importance of educators taking an active role in their continuous development and places emphasis on their learning. The professional learning that occurs when these standards are fully implemented enrolls educators as active partners in determining the content of their learning, how their learning occurs, and how they evaluate its effectiveness. The standards give educators the information they need to take leadership roles as advocates for and facilitators of effective professional learning and the conditions required for its success. Widespread attention to the standards increases equity of access to a high-quality education for every student, not just for those lucky enough to attend schools in more advantaged communities.

Within the spirit and institutional framework of Marian University, we are committed to the development of caring, competent, reflective individuals for present and future professional roles by providing learning-centered, collaborative, accountable and theoretically sound undergraduate and graduate programs that reflect values and ethics with an increasingly diverse and global community.
